Persephone by Light-Heartless Persephone by Light-Heartless
This is something I have been working on for a long long time now.
I know I am not exactly finished, I am just tired of looking at it xD I also though that if you guys have any input to fix it, that could help.

In seventh grade I fell in love with the story of Persephone and how Hades stole her away and brought her to the underworld. As far as I understand she became a scary bad-ass goddess of the underworld, but before that happened I would like to think she was upset that she couldn't leave.
The flowers there are supposed to be remnants of the ones she was picking when Hades abducted her.

Well it depends on the version of the story

In some she hated her mother for being so controlling, and was willing

and the story can be taken as a parent learning to let there child go

Plus they seem to get along fine in other stories I mean Persephone went NUTS when some other woman tried to steal Hades away

love everything except the hair xD superb composition and detailing. The figure is exquisite. Are those flowers crocuses? Because if so, that's very accurate of you.

If you would add anything, replace the flowers with a Pomegranate that has been opened, and eaten from; from that moment alone, she cannot leave...   ~MdC~

I think it's beautiful and doesn't need any fixing. Might be interesting to solidify the shadows just a little to suggest Hades but that would make this a different piece.

I think she was pretty upset about it. I would be if someone interrupted my day in the sun darn it! :P But really I love it. I like the story where her mother plays in to how the seasons were created. IF YOU DONT KNOW, when she found out that her daughter had been stolen she demanded she be returned. But, because Persephone had eaten the fruit of the underworld (the Pom.) Zeus said it wasn't possible. So in turn, her mother said she would not let the earth grow any plants until her daughter was returned. So a deal was met where Persephone could visit with her mother half of the year and the other half she spent in the underworld. Spring and summer signify her time with her mother, fall and winter signify her days in the underworld. :P I LOVE THIS STORY!

Nice art! I would like to ask for permission if it's okay to have your art be part of my list on my site? I am looking forward to feature some great gods and goddesses on my site. You can check out my site here, at the bottom. Of course I'll put a credit that this is your own art. :)
Hope you'll agree! \(^_^)/

That a gorge image, the bright burst of colour from the flowe really shines! I really like the whole hazy feel of the underworld in the background makes you guess what horrors might await though I think it would be great with a few more cavenous walls. Seriously love her dress, simple, greek yet sexy perfect for the character!

I love the narcissus flowers. I read that they were the flowers which captured Seph's attention before being kidnapped by Hades. Her outfit's quite simple yet alluring at the same time. NICE JOB! :D

This is absolutely beautiful! You can really feel how desperate and sad she is. Her dress is beautiful and I love her hair, it's absolutely gorgeous! The flowers are so sweet. They remind my of Eurydice's song "Flowers" from the 'folk opera' Hadestown. Do you know it?

I fell in love with that story too! I was in the sixth grade, with the best social studies teacher I could ever ask for. I remember when we hit the myth unit, he started class by saying: "Okay guys, I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Zeus...was a player."

From all the stories I've read, Persephone was really scared at first, but after a while she realized just how much of a push over Hades was. What she didn't know was that he was only a push over for HER, no one else. She had him wrapped around her finger before she even arrived in the Underworld. She didn't so much become a bad-ass goddess as become the only one who could control Hades' rage and influence his decisions. She's usually seen as the peace in the Underworld. If you've pissed Hades off and have to get a punishment before him, you're gonna be praying it's Winter and Persephone is in the room.

Beautiful artwork, it speaks volumes. Love her dress - I've always been a sucker for Grecian outfits ^_^

LOVE IT!

i know, right? mythology is so interesting, so I became interested in..... well.... everything about it.

I thought Persephone's story was.... extremely... tragic. In a way.

This drawing mirrored my thoughts about the story.

this was my favorite greek tale of all time. the details in this are beautiful. most people go overboard on details, and it takes away from the picture, but they're so soft in this one that it works. also, i like the lack of detail (aside from the little platform) in the background to note how the underworld was pretty much void of a lot of things. well, what i mean to say is that this is amazing.

This looks really nice :D I think the thing that jumps out at me to critique is that her left leg seems a bit short. It may not even necessarily be an anatomy issue as much as shading it a bit differently depending on how much the hips are rotated.

I totally agree, now that you point it out ^-^

You think using darker shades at the top of her left leg/belly area might push it back a little and make it look longer? Or did you have something else in mind?

Bah I see so much I want to fix now- I really do need to play with this some more xD

oops! XD I hit the send button before I was done. But yeah, maybe a bit darker values under the belly and on the clothing behind the other leg on her back side. Also, in the pic I just post in the other comment I rounded out that left knew a bit just by erasing a bot from the top. Haha, yeah, that's how I would fix it if it were me XD Of course, there are other ways. I'm just a big fan of doing as little as possible, lol
